As part of her initiatives as President of WASPEN, Dr. Pounds has sought to collaborate with pharmacists in Nigeria and the US to develop a Clerkship Training Program that will focus on training pharmacists who are lecturers, preceptors, and faculty for pharmacy universities to be more clinically focused in various areas of pharmacy practice. In the July 2018 session, sessions were held at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Faith Mediplex Hospital, and Central Hospital with 130 attendees.

At the end of the training program, attendees took a survey to assess efficacy of the program. Over 90% of the attendees were satisfied with the program and found it useful to their practice.

Based on the huge success of the 2018 Clerkship Training Program session, Dr. Pounds, accompanied by pharmacists in other disciplines, will be holding the August 2019 Clerkship Training Program session in Enugu, Nigeria. The following topics to be covered include:

  • Ambulatory Care
  • Drug Information/Literature Review
  • Acute Care/Internal Medicine
  • Critical Care/Nutritional Support
