Improving clinical nutrition in West Afric
WASPEN exists to lead the advancement of clinical experience and patient nutrition in West Africa. Our strategy proposal includes linking up with like-minded organizations, Governments of West African countries and their executive branches in public and private groups to ensure the tackling of the high priority issues related to nutrition support across the region.Â
OBJECTIVES OF THE WASPEN PUBLIC SCHEMEÂ
- Advance the nutritional care of patients receiving nutrition support.
- Work towards ensuring that for any patients dependent on government-funded health programs, they get the highest quality nutritional support care, optimizing the funding
- Advocate the notion for suitable economic strategies that promote the availability of safe and effective nutrition care support.Â
PUBLIC POLICY AGENDA
WASPEN aims to introduce and promote nutritional care as a healthcare practice, providing healthcare professionals with adequate education that would assist in the prevention and treating of diseases related to and/or worsened by concurrent malnutrition.
WASPEN promotes the integration of discipline and medicine to tackle the multi-faceted issues of clinical malnutrition by identifying and sharing information and good practice.Â

Training in nutritional care for health and social care professionals
National nutritional care plans endorsement and implementation with funding secured across all care settings
Consideration of nutritional support product availability, production standardization and medical nutrition therapy as a key topic for incoming West African presidents and political officials
