Who we are
We are committed to maximizing clinical nutritional care and reducing the incidences of malnutrition in both hospitalized patients and outpatient care facilities.Â
Improving Clinical Nutrition care in west africa
WASPEN, founded in 2019 in Nigeria, aims to establish a healthcare system in West Africa where every patient receives safe and appropriate nutrition. The organization focuses on improving clinical nutritional care through clinician education, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Committed to raising awareness about malnutrition, WASPEN addresses the needs of patients requiring specialized nutritional support. It unites dietitians, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and caregivers to enhance care and reduce malnutrition rates in hospitals and outpatient settings. With 15 official members and a board of trustees, WASPEN oversees various socio-political, clinical, and economic initiatives.
Leading the practice of improved clinical nutritionÂ
We are dedicated to developing and training highly skilled nutritional support therapy professionals. Additionally, we are working towards creating cost-effective nutritional support formulations that are both economically viable and easily accessible for import or local production within the region. At WASPEN, we strive to stay ahead of the curve in these efforts.Â
Our Aim
To improve patient care through the continued sharing of knowledge in nutritional support, and we want to incorporate change to the healthcare system in Nigerian hospitals. This will be achieved through research, professional and clinical practice development seminars, and evidence-based clinical practice models.
