WASPEN Member Spotlight: Dr. Iyeseun Asieba

Iyeseun Olusola Asieba is a distinguished consultant clinical pharmacist and public health professional with nearly three decades of experience spanning hospital pharmacy, community pharmacy, and international health development.

She is a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Jos, Nigeria, as well as a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Walden University, USA. She further strengthened her clinical expertise by completing the Special Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) Conversion Program at the University of Benin, Nigeria.

A Career Dedicated to Patient Care and Public Health

Over the course of her approximately 30-year career, Mrs. Asieba has made significant contributions across multiple sectors of pharmacy practice. Her professional experience has been almost equally divided among hospital practice, community pharmacy, and international public health initiatives.

A notable chapter of her career was her service with the Howard University Global Initiative Nigeria (HUGIN), where she served as Deputy Project Director, providing leadership in HIV/AIDS programs and contributing to the implementation of evidence-based healthcare interventions across Nigeria.

Passion for Clinical Nutrition

Mrs. Asieba’s interest in parenteral nutrition began early in her professional journey during her involvement in nutrition support services at the Royal Middlesex Hospital, London. This experience exposed her to the critical role that specialized nutritional support plays in improving patient outcomes.

Recognizing the limited availability of parenteral nutrition services in Nigeria despite the significant clinical need, she has remained a passionate advocate for expanding access to high-quality nutrition support services throughout the country.

Joining the WASPEN Mission

As a registered member of the West Africa Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (WASPEN), Mrs. Asieba is committed to advancing clinical nutrition through education, advocacy, research, and strategic partnerships.

She is particularly enthusiastic about collaborating with the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) through the leadership of Dr. Teresa Pounds and fellow WASPEN members. Together, they share a vision of strengthening nutrition support services, promoting multidisciplinary collaboration, and improving patient outcomes across Nigeria and the wider West African region.

Mrs. Asieba looks forward to contributing to initiatives that increase awareness, support research, foster professional development, and expand access to safe, evidence-based nutrition support for patients who need it most.
