WASPEN Clinical Webinar: Advancing Best Practices in Parenteral Nutrition Support

Successful WASPEN Webinar Highlights the Importance of Global Perspectives in Nutrition Support

The West African Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (WASPEN) hosted a clinical webinar on October 28, 2020, focused on improving knowledge and practice in specialized nutritional support.

The webinar was moderated by Dr. Teresa Pounds and featured an expert presentation by Professor Gil Hardy on the topic:

“Towards Best Parenteral Nutrition Practice: An International Perspective.”

The session provided healthcare professionals with valuable insights into current approaches, global standards, and emerging best practices in parenteral nutrition management.

Positive Feedback from Healthcare Professionals

Following the webinar, a satisfaction survey was conducted among the 95 attendees to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the program.

The results demonstrated strong engagement and positive feedback, with more than 95% of participants reporting satisfaction with the webinar and identifying the content as highly useful to their clinical practice.

The feedback highlighted the importance of continued professional education and knowledge-sharing platforms that support healthcare professionals involved in nutritional care.

The Importance of a Multidisciplinary Approach to Nutrition Support

During the webinar, Dr. Teresa Pounds also discussed the impact and benefits of a multidisciplinary team approach to nutrition support.

Effective nutrition support requires collaboration among different healthcare professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, dietitians, and nurses. A coordinated team approach helps ensure:

  • Appropriate patient nutritional assessment.
  • Individualized nutrition care planning.
  • Safe and effective administration of nutritional therapies.
  • Improved monitoring of treatment outcomes.
  • Better overall patient care and recovery.

The webinar reinforced WASPEN’s commitment to promoting education, collaboration, and evidence-based nutritional support practices throughout West Africa.

Through initiatives such as clinical webinars, WASPEN continues to build capacity among healthcare professionals and strengthen the delivery of specialized nutrition care across the region.
